Queensland stallion Golden Archer couldn’t have picked a better time to fire arrows with his progeny winning three-year-old races at Saturday metropolitan level and Rockhampton in the space of six days.
Last Saturday the David Murphy trained filly Archer’s Paradox collected $79,450 for her connections after winning over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast.
On Thursday at Callaghan Park another Golden Archer filly, Arquera (pictured), easily put away her rivals to win over 1050m, banking $21,950 in the process.
The successes are particularly relevant to the upcoming Capricornia Yearling Sale in Rockhampton where at last count there were nine lots set to be offered by Golden Archer – eight of those from the Raheen Stud draft at the Darling Downs.
As I wrote in this column a couple of weeks ago, Golden Archer flies under the radar a bit as a producer of juveniles that run early as he’d produced 18 individual two-year-old winners from just 54 runners.
His progeny obviously train on as three-year-olds going by the recent victories of Archer’s Paradox and Arquera.
The good news for buyers at this year’s Rockhampton sale is – even if your yearling doesn’t make the $155,000 2YO Classic (1200m) next year, you get a crack at a boosted 3 & 4YO Championship race (1300m) now worth $105,000 in the following two years of your Capricornia Yearling Sale graduate’s life.
That alone will make it worthwhile inspecting the Golden Archers come Sunday, April 14, at Rockhampton Showgrounds.
